Take your child’s reading journey to the next level with the Little Mastermind Reading Cards – Level 3. Building on the skills developed in Levels 1 and 2, these phonics reading cards introduce children to digraphs and other common letter combinations that work together to represent a different sound.

Through structured word sets, consistent colour coding and colourful picture cues, children learn to recognise familiar letter patterns within words, decode increasingly complex words and connect what they read with meaning.

Discover Digraphs and New Sound Patterns

As children progress in reading, they encounter letter combinations that represent sounds in different ways. The Little Mastermind Reading Cards – Level 3 introduce patterns such as ch, sh, th, ph, wh, oo and ee.

Children Practice identifying these combinations within words and using their knowledge of letter sounds to decode complete words. This helps them become more familiar with common spelling patterns and develop strategies for approaching words that are more complex than those encountered in earlier levels.

The Little Mastermind Reading Cards follow a progressive learning journey:

• Level 1: Begin reading simple three-letter words by blending individual letter sounds.
• Level 2: Explore consonant blends and practice decoding words with more complex consonant combinations.

The familiar Little Mastermind colour-coding system continues throughout the reading series:

• Pink – Consonants
• Blue – Vowels

This visual distinction helps children identify consonants and vowels within increasingly complex words. It also reinforces the same visual language used in Little Mastermind Sandpaper Letters, Tracing Cards and earlier Reading Cards, creating continuity across the early-literacy collection.

Each set includes colourful picture cues that support word recognition and help children connect the words they decode with their meanings.

These visual associations make reading practice more engaging and provide opportunities for parents and educators to discuss new vocabulary, identify familiar objects and encourage children to use newly learned words in context.

Small Sets for Focused Practice

Each box contains 24 sets of cards, with 6–8 words in each set. The words are organised into manageable groups so children can practice one set at a time, revisit challenging patterns and reinforce their learning through repetition.

As children become more familiar with the featured letter combinations, they can work towards recognising patterns more readily and decoding words with greater confidence.
